BGS Medical College and Hospital Conducts Faculty Development Programme on “Research in Medical Education” under VIKASANA Initiative

BGS Medical College and Hospital successfully hosted FDP titled Research in Medical Education on June 10, 2026, at the MEU Hall. The event was organized by the Medical Education Unit as a critical component of its flagship initiative, VIKASANA-Fostering Academic Excellence. This program serves as a cornerstone for the institution is commitment to enhancing pedagogical standards and fostering a robust culture of inquiry among its academic staff. The primary objectives of the session included articulating the necessity of research within the medical education framework, reviewing contemporary global and domestic trends, and identifying priority areas for impactful research under the Competency Based Medical Education curriculum.

The seminar featured esteemed speakers who brought a wealth of expertise to the forum. Dr. Sudhir G.K., Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology and IQAU Coordinator at the ACU Nagarur campus, provided an in-depth analysis of the evolving landscape of medical research and the systemic need for scholarly evaluation of teaching methodologies. Following this, Dr. Major Nikhil S. Bhardwaj, Professor of Otorhinolaryngology and Coordinator of the Curriculum Committee, shared valuable insights into the practical application of research within the Competency Based Medical Education framework, emphasizing how faculty can identify and pursue high-impact research opportunities that align with modern healthcare requirements.

The session saw an impressive turnout of more than sixty faculty members and research scholars from BGS Medical College and Hospital. The presence of senior leadership further underscored the institutional importance of the event. Dr. K.S. Gangadhara, Dean of the college, and Dr. V.R. Krishnamurthy, Chief of Hospital, were in attendance alongside Vice Dean of Research Dr. Raghuram and MEU Coordinator Dr. Satish S. Patil. Their participation in the subsequent discussions facilitated a high-level exchange of ideas regarding the integration of research into daily academic responsibilities.

The concluding discussions involved active participation from the Medical Education Unit and the Curriculum Committee members, who addressed the challenges and opportunities associated with academic research in the current medical landscape. By aligning institutional goals with the broader objectives of the VIKASANA program, the seminar successfully equipped attendees with the theoretical knowledge and motivation required to contribute to the advancement of medical education. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the institutional journey toward academic and research excellence in the region.
