International Day of Yoga 2026 Celebration Organized by the Department of Physiology at BGS Medical College and Hospital, Nagaruru
The Department of Physiology hosted a significant commemorative event on June 21, 2026, to observe the International Day of Yoga. Held at the university students hostel, the program aimed to cultivate wellness and mindfulness within the academic community. This initiative underscored the institution’s commitment to holistic health and the integration of traditional practices with modern medical education.
The event saw the active participation of 102 MBBS students who transitioned from their rigorous clinical studies to focus on physical and mental well-being. Accompanied by several faculty members, the students engaged in a comprehensive forty-five-minute yoga session. This session followed the standardized international protocol, ensuring that participants received a balanced experience comprising physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditative practices.
The quality of the session was maintained through the expertise of twelve professional yoga instructors and demonstrators. These specialists provided individualized guidance and technical corrections to the participants, ensuring the safe and effective execution of each movement. The presence of such a high ratio of instructors to students allowed for an immersive and educational atmosphere throughout the morning.
Distinguished faculty members from the university provided leadership and support during the event. Dr Gangadhar, Dr Krishna murthy, Dr. Jyothi, Dr. Sudhir, and Dr. Tanvir were among the notable participants who joined the students in the exercises. Their involvement served to bridge the gap between senior medical educators and the student body, highlighting the importance of physician well-being as a cornerstone of professional medical practice.
The Department of Physiology concluded the event by emphasizing that such practices contribute significantly to stress reduction and overall health maintenance. The success of this gathering reinforces the university’s ongoing mission to produce well-rounded medical professionals who are conscious of both personal health and community wellness. Plans to further integrate such health-oriented initiatives into the academic calendar are currently being considered to ensure long-term benefits for the campus community.
